This intense actor who proved his versatility with poignant performance in Maachis, followed by Tere Mere Sapne and Daag - The Fire says he hasn’t got his due in Bollywood yet. “I guess it’s fate. Inspite of so many successful films, somehow things didn’t go as planned, Chandrachur Singh says.
Yet, this former music teacher from the Doon School says he hasn’t lost faith in filmdom. “Even when all my films were clicking and people around me hailed me as the next Amitabh Bachchan, never once did I get carried away by the euphoria. So I’m cool even now. I have the belief that the tide will change for the better, the actor with the puppy dog eyes adds.
Prod him about his ‘wrong’ choice of films and he confesses, “It’s just fate. One has to be really careful when selecting films. You have to be choosy and work sincerely. All said and done, the industry is still not all that welcoming towards outsiders. You have to be blessed with fabulous hits to be able to make an impact.
Singh agrees that there is a lull in his career, but claims he will be firmly on track in the next couple of months. “I have had a release practically every month, only they weren’t so much in the limelight. Some of my films, like the recent Amdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya did well, while patriotic film like Bharat Bhagya Vidhata flopped, he informs us.
The actor is glad he has enough work on hand to prove his mettle. “I am doing Sarhad Paar by first-time producers Nimbus, Junoon where I play a journalist with co-star Shilpa Shetty, Aur Phir Ek Din by Akashdeep, starring Neha and Sharad Kapoor and Mohhabat Hogayi Hai. All of them portray me in very different roles and hopefully, I’ll get ample scope to perform, he smiles.
Chandrachur doesn’t reel when questioned about his marriage. “I have been married for more than four years and am enjoying every moment of my life. It’s always good to have a firm anchor in one’s life and I have been someone who has believed in a serious relationship. I am a family man, but yet to start my family, he quips.
